Dance Battle Extravaganza

"Dance Battle Extravaganza" unites the talent of a professional jazz dance company with over 140 community members ready to "dance it out" in a family-friendly battle to support the art of dance in Owensboro, KY.
Act One features the athleticism and excitement of a professional jazz dance company, opening the evening and setting the stage for a thrilling night of dance. The second act features various community groups ready to take the stage for your vote and the votes of guest judges- all for bragging rights and $1,000 as the year's "Grand Prize Winner" of Dance Battle Extravaganza.
With over 500 community members taking the stage since its first year, "Dance Battle Extravaganza" unites the talent of professional dancers from Chicago, Illinois' professional jazz dance company with over 100 Owensboro/Daviess County community members each year.
This season's "Dance Battle Extravaganza" will take place on Saturday February 17th, 2024 as 6 community groups take the stage to compete in an encouraging, community building environment. The 6 groups consist of area non-profit organizations, schools and local community businesses. With the assistance of ODT teaching artists, each community member spends two months preparing a dance performance, many with no previous dance experience, and presents the performance on stage during the second act of "Dance Battle Extravaganza".
Audience members are directly involved in Dance Battle Extravaganza as they determine the evening’s “Grand Prize Winner” through text-voting. Three judges assist in determining the winners of each battle round. The third award is the “Community Favorite Award”- awarded to the team who gathers the most community support in the weeks leading up to the battles. Each award has a monetary value:
* Grand Prize Winner- $1,000
Community Favorite Winner- $500
Battle Round Winner- $100
The joy of this special performance is seen in its unification and simultaneous education for community members in attendance to support friends and family members competing, over 80% of whom stated “they would never have attended a concert featuring the art of dance” otherwise. They were astounded by the ability and talent of the professional dancers, ODT's company dancers, and the family and friends they were in attendance to support.
This event also supports the community through its prize opportunities as winners are allotted funds to support their organization or their favorite non-profit organization in the community to ensure the art of dance makes the greatest impact possible through the entire Owensboro/Daviess County community.
