L.E.A.N. =
Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude,
and Nutrition
Dance/movement/L.E.A.N. is a free program in its 5th year that teaches parents and children nutrition is fun, easy to understand, and easy to implement.  This program is unique to area and taught by a L.E.A.N. certified coach, Kim Johnson.  Owensboro Dance Theatre is proud to be continuing the fight against obesity in the community and beyond.

Why dance?

Dance promotes a healthy eating lifestyle where food is a fuel and the focus is on meeting the body’s nutritional needs for optimum performance.  Dance increases body strength, stamina, improves flexibility, improves posture, improves balance, reduces stress, and wards off illnesses.

"I was impressed with the commitment of Owensboro Dance Theatre to incorporate the LEAN program with creative dance movements.  What a perfect fit!  During my recent visit to Owensboro, I really enjoyed your community.  My most memorable experience was speaking at the Neblett Center for Youth because I could identify with some of these kids.  My childhood was like that.”

- Dr. William Sears, America’s Pediatrician and contributor to the television show The Doctors

Just because the label claims it is healthy doesn’t mean that it really is.  Certified L.E.A.N. coach Kim Johnson explains the principles of Traffic-Light Eating and what to look for on food labels.

When you eat right, you are more likely to feel right. Feeding your family good, nutritious foods is a wise investment, for the present and for the long term. Certified L.E.A.N. coach Kim Johnson will help you make wise food choices, and find foods that not only smell good, taste good, are convenient, but also help you feel good.  Dr. Sears, co-founder of L.E.A.N., found the healthiest children in his practice were the healthiest because they ate healthy foods. These kids were sick less, had fewer discipline problems, and achieved better in school. They not only had healthier bodies, they had healthier minds.
